Houston Area Events - September

Here are a few of events going on in Houston for the end of September:
  • 1. Museum Experience
    Saturday, Sept. 27
     

    Enjoy an eclectic day immersed in the arts as the Houston Museum District Association hosts its quarterly block party. The Children's Museum of Houston, the Health Museum, Houston Museum of Natural Science, Houston Zoo and the Rice University Art Gallery will offer special programming for visitors, who are encouraged to walk or ride their bikes. Food trucks will be on hand, or bring a lunch for a picnic. Ticketed museums will be charging admission fees.

  • 2. Dock Dogs
    Friday-Sunday, Sept. 26-28


    Dog lovers will want to visit Discovery Green this weekend as the downtown park hosts the South Central Regional Championship of Dock Dogs. This is the high-flying event where pooches hitting the pool are going for titles such as "Big Air," "Extreme Vertical" and "Iron Dog."

  • 3. Galveston Island Shrimp Festival
    Friday-Sunday, Sept. 25-27


    Professional and amateur teams will be stirring the pots at a gumbo cookoff, just one of the many activities during the three-day Galveston Island Shrimp Festival in the Historic Strand District. Festivities include a boat show, a Friday night shrimp dinner, a 5K fun run, live music and a children's parade.

    When: 5-10 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday
    Cost: Free admission, but you'll need to buy a tasting cup ($12) to try the gumbos noon-4 p.m. Saturday.
