Heat advisory in effect with temperatures reaching nearly 100 degrees
Might want to hold off on the yard work and put your afternoon run on hold Sunday. With temperatures expected to reach almost 100 degrees, staying indoors with the AC blasting may be your best bet.
The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory, in effect from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday for Harris, Galveston, Brazoria, Fort Bend and Chambers counties. The temperature will start creeping up around 11 a.m., and is expected to feel like 110 degrees along the coast with combined heat and humidity. That high heat index should spread inland by 1 p.m.
The high readings aren't expected to subside until 7 p.m.
The heat indices are expected to average at 108 degree in the Houston/Galveston areas, said NWS meteorologist Tim Garner. There is a very small chance of isolated showers.
The heat advisory is expected to continue through the beginning of the week, with temperatures expected to stay in the mid- to upper-90s across the area.
With a relatively cool July, the heat is picking up again after a record high of 105 degrees at the end of June. The high Sunday will reach between 98 and 99 degrees.
If you go outside, remember to drink water, avoid direct sunlight and wear light and loose-fitting clothes.
