Adventure high and low

The promise of floating adventures lured me west. From tranquil drifting 3,000 feet above Albuquerque to rafting through rocky rapids on the Rio Grande near Taos, I was in for a double dip of excitement.

Every October, more than 100,000 spectators come to the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta for the rainbow colors of more than 600 balloons rising into the sky at dawn. The city's altitude, low humidity and calm, sunny mornings are ideal for ballooning. Commercial balloon operators run daily flights year-round.
