Galveston to host Fort Worth commissioning ceremony


The nation's newest Navy warship is slated for its commissioning service in Galveston on Sept. 22, in an event that is expected to draw thousands, including big crowds from its namesake city – Fort Worth.
"When you have a ship named after you, it's just a very special thing," said Rep. Kay Granger, R-Fort Worth, in a statement released by Lockheed Martin, which helped build the vessel. "When the Secretary of the Navy said we are considering this, we had to prove to the Secretary of the Navy that we would honor the ship and take care of the ship and her crew."
