French-inspired champagne bar opens grandly on Wash Ave

Washington Avenue’s newest boite debuted in grand style recently, hosting a cool cocktail party on a sprightly spring evening. The De Gaulle, from the owners of neighboring bar Hughes Hangar, is billing itself as  ”Houston’s first champagne house” — and the bubbly certainly flowed during its opening bash. Perrier-Jouet to be precise, in addition to sips from the bar’s varied list of champagne cocktails. A turned-out crowd of more than 350 filed in to check out the new indoor/outdoor space, as beats by DJ Little Martin and Charlie Perez played through the sound system.
