Forbes 2000 ranks the biggest public companies in Texas
Business is booming in Texas and it's not just the corner lemonade stands.
Fifty-eight of the world's biggest public companies make their headquarters in the Lone Star State, according to the new Forbes 2000 annual ranking of businesses.
As could be expected, a majority of Texas' entries on the Forbes 2000 came from the energy sector. ExxonMobil, with a market value of $422.3 billion, was Texas' highest entry at No. 6 overall.
Companies are ranked based on a composite score of four separate rankings: sales, profits, assets and market value. In addition to its overal tops-in-Texas ranking, ExxonMobil led the state in all four categories individually.
Other Texas household names on the list included AT&T, Phillips 66, Southwest Airlines and American Airlines, paper goods manufacturer Kimberly-Clark, Whole Foods Market and the Dr Pepper Snapple Group.
