Historic Petroleum Club moving

Historic Petroleum Club moving

The Petroleum Club of Houston, a private dining and business club that was founded on the city’s strength as an energy town, is moving from the top floor of downtown’s Exxon Mobil building into new space a few blocks away.
Next January, the club will open its new facility on the top floor of 1201 Louisiana across from the Hyatt Regency. The 35-story building is also known as Total Plaza.
The club’s existing space is in 800 Bell, which was sold more than a year ago after Exxon Mobil announced plans to move to a new corporate campus just south of The Woodlands. The building’s new owner, San Francisco-based Shorenstein Properties, is planning a sweeping renovation to the 1.2 million-square-foot property.
The Petroleum Club was founded in 1946, and its original location was on the top floor of the Rice Hotel. A growing membership required the need for more space so the club moved to the the Exxon Mobil building in 1963.
Today, the club’s members include professionals in the energy, medical, legal, diplomatic and academic fields.
The new space was designed by the Kirksey architecture firm. Brookfield Properties owns the building.
